Building A Strong Ownership Culture in A Team
I’ve been advocating for giving space to the people and creating an ownership culture in the team for a while. I’ve seen many managers fail in these and become micro-managers and get stuck in the same role, failing to grow as a leader, too.
Managing Impostor Syndrome as a New Engineering Manager
Impostor syndrome - that persistent feeling that you're a fraud about to be discovered - hits particularly hard when stepping into engineering management. It's not just about doubting your abilities anymore; suddenly you're responsible for other people's careers too while trying to figure out your new role.
How to Demonstrate Leadership in Cross-Functional Software Development Teams
Software development leaders can demonstrate effective leadership in such teams by creating a shared vision, facilitating communication, and providing support.
The problem with most L&D strategies
Ultimately, the most effective L&D strategy is NOT about helping people learn more skills or adopt existing learning solutions more. (As much I love learning as an intrinsic concept, the foundational purpose of learning is for that learning to be translated into meaningful action.) An effective L&D strategy is about helping people PERFORM BETTER.
AI Makes Tech Debt More Expensive
There is an emerging belief that AI will make tech debt less relevant. Since it’s getting easier to write code, and easier to clean up code, wouldn’t it make sense that the typical company can handle a little more debt? The opposite is true - AI has significantly increased the real cost of carrying tech debt. The key impact to notice is that generative AI dramatically widens the gap in velocity between ‘low-debt’ coding and ‘high-debt’ coding.
